Foster parents are needed

In Tokyo, approximately 4,000 children live in child welfare facilities, infant homes, and foster homes due to parental illness or abuse.
Foster homes are in demand as they provide an environment similar to that of a family.

  • Requirements to become a foster parent include having the best interests of the child as a motivation, not being in financial distress, and having an appropriate home and living environment.
  • There are no age restrictions when applying to be a foster parent. About 60% of foster parents are over 50 years old.
  • The custody period varies from a few days to long-term.
  • There are types such as "foster parents for special adoption" and "foster parents for childcare" who do not enter into adoption.
  • During the foster care period of a "foster parent", childcare expenses will be paid.

Information Session

The Tamafos (Tama Fostering Agency), which is responsible for the foster parent system, regularly holds information sessions (system explanations, experiences shared by foster parents, individual consultations for applicants, etc.).
Anyone who is hoping to become a foster parent, is interested in the system, or has participated before can join.

Foster Parent Experience Presentation

Tokyo Metropolitan Government holds a foster parent experience presentation every year and publishes the presentation collection on the Inagi City Website.
It talks about the reasons for wanting to become a foster parent, the challenges of raising a foster child, and the wonderful experiences of parenting that can only be felt as a foster parent.
