Introduction of Electronic Voting Machines During Elections

Inagi City is recognized for actively embracing digital initiatives, such as utilizing Machiiro.
What I especially want you to work on in the future is electronic voting during elections. For Older Adults, even going to the polling station is difficult
Therefore, it is even more difficult to write your name with a pen, so I would definitely like electronic voting machines (I have heard that the current machines are more accurate than the previous ones) to be installed.
I confirmed online that the Election Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications is also promoting this. Please be sure to present advanced examples from Inagi City.

Regarding electronic voting, it was implemented for the first time in eight years nationwide in Shijonawate City, Osaka Prefecture, in 2024, aiming to resolve doubtful and invalid ballots and to shorten the vote counting time. Voters select the candidate's name on a tablet device at the voting booth, eliminating the need to write on a ballot paper, ensuring the voter's intent is accurately reflected, among other advantages. On the other hand, Shijonawate City required about 46 million yen for outsourcing fees and equipment purchases related to electronic voting, and reports indicate that the vote counting time was shortened by only about 20 minutes, making it a costly endeavor. Additionally, since electronic voting is currently only permitted for local elections, the voting method differs depending on the election type, which may cause confusion among voters. For these reasons, the city is not currently considering implementing electronic voting. If you have difficulty writing the candidate's name yourself, you can use the "proxy voting" system, where voting booth staff assist you. Please feel free to ask the staff for help.
