Rare Wild Plants and Animals in Japan
According to the Ministry of the Environment, six species have been newly designated as domestic rare wild plant and animal species under the law concerning the conservation of species at risk of extinction, bringing the total to 448 species as of February 2024.
Domestic rare wild plant and animal species are generally prohibited from capture, collection, and transfer based on the "Species Conservation Act."
If you witness illegal activities such as capture, collection, or transfer (for example, listing on online auctions), please contact the Ministry of the Environment.
