What is the Nationwide Instantaneous Warning System (J-Alert)?

This is a system that transmits information from the national government (via the Cabinet Secretariat and the Japan Meteorological Agency to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency) regarding situations that require immediate action, such as ballistic missile information and emergency earthquake alerts, and automatically activates the city disaster prevention administrative radio and other systems to instantly convey emergency information from the national government to residents.

Information conveyed by J-Alert

  • Emergency Earthquake Alert (Estimated Seismic Intensity of 5 Lower or Higher)
  • Special Weather Warnings
  • Volcano Eruption Alert (Mount Fuji)
  • National Protection Information (Ballistic Missile Information, Large-Scale Terrorism Information, etc.)
