Our Town Inagi 2016: Mitsuki Takahashi
Take a step from Inagi to the world: Join the "Tokyo Global Youth Camp"!
Mr. Takahashi, who grew up in Inagi and currently attends Tachikawa International Secondary School, was selected as a member of the "2015 Tokyo Global Youth Camp" organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education and participated as a trainee in a 5-night, 6-day program at the JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) training center.
The Tokyo Global Youth Camp gathers high school students from across the country who are interested in international cooperation and are eager to contribute to society both domestically and internationally in the future. When Takahashi was in the sixth grade, he was shocked by a photo of children living in impoverished areas that he saw at the JICA Global Plaza, which sparked his interest in international contribution and led him to dream, "If there is something I can do about global poverty, I want to do it."
In this training, I had the opportunity to interact with peers of the same generation who have various perspectives, and I gained a lot from it. Additionally, I had the chance to act alongside trainees from the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers who are active on the front lines of international cooperation, which provided me with great inspiration.
And, the results of that training were powerfully presented as a "Message from the Next Generation" at the 50th anniversary ceremony of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers, which was also attended by Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress.
Although Mr. Takahashi is highly international-minded, he participates in the Youth Worker Seminar organized by the Inagi City Youth Committee and is also active as a community leader. It seems that he is learning the foundations for living as an international person through activities with peers of different ages and living environments.
Mr. Takahashi, who aspires to become a JICA staff member in the future and play a role in international cooperation. I hope he continues to meet various people, gain many experiences, and spread his wings to the world.
