Regarding Subsidies for HPV Vaccination for Boys

It seems that requests have been raised here repeatedly, but we strongly request again for subsidies for HPV vaccination for boys.
In the 23 wards and neighboring cities (such as Fuchu, Chofu, Tama City, Komae, and many others), subsidies for male vaccinations have already started, but has it not yet been considered in Inagi City?
There was also news that the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare approved adding the prevention of anal cancer and other effects to the efficacy of the 9-valent HPV vaccine, and expanded the vaccination target to include men.
We would like to request prompt consideration and implementation for the future health of as many citizens as possible.

Response

We are aware that some cities and wards within Tokyo Metropolis are implementing subsidy programs for voluntary HPV vaccination (quadrivalent) for males. We also acknowledge that the approval has been granted for the additional indication of the HPV vaccine (9-valent) for the prevention of anal cancer and the expansion of vaccination targets to males. On the other hand, regarding the regular vaccination program, deliberations began in August 2022 at the National Health Science Council's Vaccination and Vaccine Subcommittee, and by March 2024, while the effectiveness and safety of administering the HPV vaccine (quadrivalent) three times as a basis for regular vaccination have been confirmed to a certain extent, issues remain concerning cost-effectiveness. Discussions are continuing as of July 2025.
At present, HPV vaccination for males is not covered under the routine vaccinations stipulated by the Vaccination Act and is positioned as a voluntary vaccination. Therefore, the city currently does not plan to provide financial assistance for the vaccination costs, but will continue to monitor the trends of the national government and other municipalities.
