Tokyo Metropolitan Air Pollution Medical Expenses Subsidy System

In Tokyo, we provide assistance for medical expenses to those suffering from diseases such as bronchial asthma.
You must meet certain requirements to apply.

Eligible Individuals

Those who meet all of the following 1 to 5

1. Persons under 18 years old (including those who are within the month of their 18th birthday until the last day of that month.)
2. Residents who have lived in Tokyo for more than one year (or more than six months if under 3 years old) (those who are registered as residents)
3. Currently, those suffering from bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, asthmatic bronchitis, and pulmonary emphysema
4. Those who are enrolled in health insurance, etc.
5. Non-smokers after the application date

Note: The acceptance of new applications for those aged 18 and over (those who do not fall under category 1) ended on March 31, 2015. Those who currently hold a medical voucher and were born on or before April 1, 1997, can only apply for renewal.

Scope of Subsidy

Subsidies will be provided for the out-of-pocket expenses after applying health insurance for the medical expenses incurred for the treatment of diseases listed on the medical voucher.
Note: Those who have a peach-colored medical voucher (individuals born on or before April 1, 1997, and who possess a valid medical voucher) will receive assistance for amounts exceeding 6,000 yen of their monthly out-of-pocket expenses.

Items Not Eligible for Subsidy

• Medical Expenses for Diseases Not Listed on the Medical Voucher
• Costs related to the application (Document preparation fee, Inspection fee)
• Standard Burden Amount for Dietary and Lifestyle Therapy During Hospitalization

Grant Period

The validity period of the medical voucher is from the date the Health Center received the application form,

1. Until the end of the last day belonging to the most recent birthday after two years have passed
2. Until the last day of the month in which the 18th birthday falls

It will be the shorter of either (as stated on the medical voucher).

If you wish to continue receiving assistance after the expiration of the validity period, you can renew it.
Please apply for renewal before the expiration date.

Note: Those who have a medical voucher with a date of birth on or after April 2, 1997, and whose validity period extends to the last day of the month in which their 18th birthday falls, cannot renew it.

About Update Application

The documents required for renewal will be sent by mail from Tokyo about two months before the expiration date, so please promptly submit the necessary documents to the Inagi City Health Center window once you receive them.
If you have lost your documents or they have not arrived, we provide spare documents at the Health Center counter.
If you wish to update, please be sure to complete the procedure within the valid period.
