From April 1, 2020, under the "Tokyo Metropolitan Ordinance on the Promotion of Safe and Proper Use of Bicycles," all individuals using bicycles within Tokyo are required to enroll in personal liability insurance (insurance to cover injuries caused to others).
If you are already enrolled through special contracts such as automobile insurance, fire insurance, or credit card benefits, there is no need to join a new insurance plan. Please first check your current insurance enrollment status.
Information on how to check the insurance you are enrolled in and the main business operators handling bicycle insurance is available on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government website.
