Theme

The anime series "Mobile Suit Gundam," which boasts immense popularity worldwide. It remains a popular series with new works still being produced. The first installment, "Mobile Suit Gundam," began airing in 1979. Featuring a robust story that is not simply good versus evil, dramas woven by compelling characters, and mobile suit designs based on the story's world view, it challenged the typical robot anime aimed at elementary school viewers at the time. It was an ambitious work as the third original production by Sunrise, an animation studio that had just been established.
In Vol.10, we welcome Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, who was responsible for character design and animation direction in 'Mobile Suit Gundam'; Kenichi Matsuzaki, who set the foundational worldview and also wrote the script for depicting war in space; and Kunio Okawara, who designed the "Mobile Suits" that later became the cornerstone of the real robot genre. They share behind-the-scenes stories from the production and discuss how this timeless masterpiece was created.
