The 12th Special Condolence Payment Will Be Provided

Purpose of Special Funeral Allowance

On the 80th anniversary of the postwar period, we reflect on the precious sacrifices of the war dead and others who laid the foundation for our country's current peace and prosperity, and as a nation, we once again express our condolences by providing special condolence payments (registered government bonds) to the bereaved families of the war dead and others.
Regarding the 12th Special Condolence Payment, registered government bonds with a face value of 275,000 yen (repaid over 5 years at 55,000 yen per year) will be issued.

Eligible Recipients

If there are no surviving family members of the war dead, etc., who at the reference date of April 1, 2025, receive "public service assistance fees under the Pension Act" or "survivor's Pension under the Act on Support for War Disabled and War Bereaved Families" (such as the wife or parents of the war dead), the payment will be made to one surviving family member in the following order of priority.

  1. Persons who acquired the right to receive condolence money under the Act on Assistance for War Disabled Persons and Bereaved Families by April 1, 2025
  2. Children of the Fallen
  3. The (1) parents (2) grandchildren (3) grandparents (4) siblings of the deceased soldiers, etc. Note that the order may change depending on whether the requirements, such as having a financial relationship with the deceased at the time of their death, are met.
  4. Relatives within the third degree of kinship (nephews, nieces, etc.) of the deceased soldiers other than those mentioned in 1 to 3 above. However, this applies only to those who had a continuous economic relationship for more than one year until the time of the deceased's death.

If there are several people with the same rank, please have one person represent all those with the same rank and apply for the special condolence payment after agreeing to the following matters.

  • Other persons with the same rank may assert their respective shares against the person who has been granted the rights.
  • If each of the other co-owners asserts their respective shares, the person who has received the adjudication of rights will be responsible for making adjustments.
  • The name and contact information of the claimant will be disclosed to other claimants of the same rank who have filed a claim or an appeal for the special condolence payment.
