Application for My Number Card for Those Moving Abroad

Among those who moved abroad on or after October 5, 2015, Japanese nationals (those who have already been assigned a My Number) are eligible to apply for the My Number Card for Those Moving Abroad.

However, the following individuals are excluded.

• Those who still have a Certificate of Residence in Japan
• Those born outside Japan who have never had a Certificate of Residence issued
• Those who moved abroad before October 5, 2015, and have not had a Certificate of Residence issued since October 5, 2015
• Persons without Japanese nationality (including former Japanese nationals, special permanent residents, and mid- to long-term residents)

Flow from Application to Receipt of My Number Card

1. Submit an application for issuance of the My Number Card through the online application site.

2. Once the My Number Card is ready to be handed over, you will receive an email notification about receiving the My Number Card from the overseas diplomatic mission or the municipal office in Japan that you designated as the receiving location.

3. Once you receive the notification email, gather the necessary documents and go to collect your My Number Card.

 

Note: Receipt of the My Number Card for those moving abroad must be done in person and cannot be received by mail. (The place of receipt can be selected at the time of application.)

Period from Application to Receipt

The period from application to issuance of the My Number Card is approximately two months (as a guideline). If you do not receive the issuance notification email even after more than three months have passed since the application, please contact your registered domicile.
