Use of Long-Term Care Insurance Services due to Traffic Accidents (Third-Party Actions)
Use of Long-Term Care Insurance services generally requires users to bear 10% to 30% of the service costs, with the remaining amount covered by insurance benefits under the Long-Term Care Insurance. However, if the need for care arises from actions by a third party, such as a traffic accident, or if the level of care required worsens and Long-Term Care Insurance services are used, the costs will be borne by the third party responsible for the damage.
The amount equivalent to the insurance benefits for Long-Term Care Insurance services borne by a third party will be temporarily advanced by the Long-Term Care Insurance and later claimed by the city from the perpetrator. To enable the city to make a claim against the perpetrator, a notification from the affected person is required. From April 1, 2016, insured persons aged 65 and over (Category 1 insured persons) are required to notify the city, the insurer, regarding third-party actions.
