In Japan, starting from December 2, 2024, a system will be implemented nationwide that primarily uses the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, and the issuance of insurance cards will be discontinued.
- Note: You can use the My Number Card for medical consultations only at medical institutions and pharmacies where card readers are installed.
- Note: A "first-time registration" is required for the use of the Health Insurance Card through My Number Portal, etc.
- Note: The health insurance cards issued by December 1, 2024, can be used until the expiration date indicated on the front.
Continued procedures for joining or withdrawing are necessary
Even after December 2, 2024, procedures for joining or withdrawing from the National Health Insurance are still required.

Regarding the response after December 2
As of December 1, those enrolled in the National Health Insurance Program of Inagi City
If you are registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, please use your My Number Card as your insured person's certificate. The currently issued paper insured person's certificate can also be used until the expiration date indicated on the front.
If you have not registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, you can use the currently issued paper Health Insurance Card to visit medical institutions until the expiration date listed on the front of the card.
Those who will join the National Health Insurance of Inagi City after December 2 (those whose National Health Insurance eligibility information will change after December 2)
If you are registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, please use your My Number Card as your insurance card. Additionally, we will issue a "Qualification Information Notification" (A4 size) during enrollment procedures and other related processes.
If you have not registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, a "Qualification Confirmation Document" (card type) will be issued during enrollment procedures, etc. By presenting the "Qualification Confirmation Document" at the medical institution's reception, you can receive insured medical treatment just like with the previous Health Insurance Card.
Response after the expiration date of the Health Insurance Card issued by December 1, 2024
For those who have registered to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, we will send a "Notification of Eligibility Information" before the expiration date of the current insurance card. No special application is required.
For those who have not registered to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, we will send a "Qualification Confirmation Document" before the expiration date of the current Health Insurance Card. No application is particularly required.
Each is scheduled to be sent around mid-July of Reiwa 7.
Notification of Qualification Confirmation and Qualification Information
Qualification Confirmation Document
The qualification confirmation document is issued to those who have not registered to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card. Similar to the current health insurance certificate, you can receive medical treatment by presenting the qualification confirmation document at medical institutions and pharmacies.
Qualification confirmation documents cannot be issued in principle to those who have registered to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card.
However, those who are unable to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card due to age, disability, etc., can apply for the issuance of a qualification confirmation document by submitting an Application Form.
Notification of Qualification Information
The notification of qualification information is intended to make it easy to understand the insured person's qualification information. It will be issued to those who have registered to use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card.
You cannot visit a medical institution with just the qualification information notice. Please use your My Number Card as your Health Insurance Card.
However, if the medical institution is unable to read the My Number Card, you can still visit the medical institution by presenting both the My Number Card and the notification of your eligibility.
Also, please keep the "Notification of Qualifications" as it may be required for administrative procedures.
Other Certificates
Older Adults Recipient Certificate
The Older Adults Benefit Certificate that was issued to those aged 70 and over will no longer be issued after December 2, 2024. If you have not registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, please present a qualification confirmation document or a valid Older Adults Benefit Certificate issued by December 1, 2024.
Certificate of Eligibility for Maximum Amount
The limit amount certification will be issued to those who have applied, just as before.
If you use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card and agree to use the high-cost medical expense system, the certificate of eligibility for the maximum amount will not be required (in principle, no application is necessary).

Specific Disease Treatment Certificate / National Health Insurance Recipient Certificate
These will continue to be issued as paper certificates. If you use the My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card, please present the paper medical certificate as well.
Benefits of My Health Insurance Card
You can view "Specific Health Checkup Information" and "Medication Information" from My Portal.
You can view your specific health checkup information and medication information on the My Number Portal.
Also, if you give your consent, information about specific health checkups and the medications you have taken in the past will be accessible to medical institutions.
The quality of medical care improves by being able to provide examinations and prescriptions tailored to your information.
Procedures for temporary payments exceeding the limit at medical institutions and pharmacies will no longer be required.
If you have registered to use your Health Insurance Card with your My Number Card and are using a medical institution that allows online verification of health insurance eligibility, you will not need to present documents such as the "Certificate of Eligibility for Maximum Amount Application".
Medical expense notification information can be linked via data when preparing the tax return.
You can also check Medical Expenses notification information on My Portal. In principle, information for medical services from two months prior is updated on the 11th of every month.
However, there are also costs for treatments such as judo therapy, acupuncture, and massage that are not displayed.

- Note: If you cancel your registration, you will no longer be able to perform online eligibility verification using the My Number Card.
