When you stop your workplace health insurance and enroll in the National Health Insurance
If you are enrolled in workplace health insurance (such as social insurance, National Health Insurance Association, or mutual aid insurance) and you withdraw from that insurance without enrolling in another health insurance, you must join the National Health Insurance.
Please complete this procedure within 14 days after withdrawing from your workplace health insurance.
Please be aware that if the enrollment procedure is delayed, you will have to pay the insurance tax retroactively.

Note: You cannot proceed with documents that only state the retirement date (such as separation notices). - Identity Verification Documents

About National Health Insurance Tax
The National Health Insurance Tax is levied from the month in which you acquire eligibility for the National Health Insurance (i.e., the month you withdraw from your workplace health insurance).
Please note that the assessment will not be applied starting from the month in which the procedure was completed.
When you join the workplace health insurance
If you join the health insurance at your workplace, you need to go through the procedure to withdraw from the National Health Insurance.
This is not something that a company or organization does; it needs to be done by the individual who is joining.
Required Items for Procedures
- Information about the newly joined health insurance
All members, including dependents, are required.
We will confirm using one of the following- Notification of Qualification Information
- Qualification Confirmation Document
- Valid workplace Health Insurance Card
- Confirmation via My Number Portal
- National Health Insurance Card or Eligibility Confirmation Document
We will refund everyone who withdraws from the National Health Insurance. - Identity Verification Documents
- Personal Number (My Number) Confirmation Document
Regarding Medical Consultations After Loss of Qualification
If you use the Health Insurance Card for the National Health Insurance after the qualification acquisition date of your workplace health insurance, you may be required to return 70% to 90% of the medical expenses (insurer's share).
If you have accidentally used it, please contact the medical institution you visited as soon as possible.
When moving in from other cities and towns
After completing the transfer procedures to Inagi City at the Citizen Affairs Division, please proceed with the enrollment procedures for the National Health Insurance.
When moving to another city or town
After completing the transfer procedure from Inagi City at the Citizen Affairs Division, please bring your Health Insurance Card or qualification confirmation document and proceed with the National Health Insurance withdrawal procedure.
When the address, head of household, name, or household composition changes within Inagi City
After completing the resident transfer procedures at the Citizen Affairs Division, please bring your Health Insurance Card or qualification confirmation document and carry out various change procedures.
When a child is born
When a member of the National Health Insurance gives birth, a childbirth and childcare lump-sum payment of 500,000 yen will be provided.
Note: The amount for childbirth until March 31, 2023, will be 420,000 yen.
When a member of the National Health Insurance dies
When a subscriber of the National Health Insurance passes away, a funeral expense of 50,000 yen will be provided.
When you lose your Health Insurance Card or qualification confirmation document, or when they are damaged
Please bring your identification documents and proceed with the reissuance procedure.
Starting from December 2, 2024, we will issue a qualification confirmation document or qualification information notice depending on whether you have registered to use your My Number Card as a Health Insurance Card.
