Hayase Ito (1st Year Youth Worker)

I started participating as a youth worker from my senior year of university. I had wanted to try it for a while, so I’m glad I could join at this time. In my first year, my goals were to "get along with the children" and "gain experience."
Through activities such as games and group work, I was able to learn about each child's unique personality and deepen our relationships through repeated discussions. The overnight activities in July and August left a particularly strong impression on me. What I feel was beneficial through these activities is that my discomfort with being in front of others has lessened. I used to be bad at presentations and tended to avoid them because I worried about how others might perceive me. However, by standing in front of the children as a youth worker and taking on roles such as leading games and giving explanations, I gradually gained confidence. I feel that these experiences have become strengths that I can apply in my future professional life. Additionally, through these activities, the relationships among the workers deepened, and forming a new community was also a significant gain.
Going forward as a second-year youth worker, I want to build on my first-year experience to connect with junior members, contribute to creating an environment where children can have fun, and also foster my own growth.
Ayaka Hayama (7th Year Youth Worker)

Through about seven years of activities as a youth worker, I have witnessed the growth of the children and also feel that I have grown significantly myself.
The time I spent with the children was very special to me. Even though we only meet once a month, there are children I have become so close to. Watching their growth up close with each meeting, each moment has become an irreplaceable memory.
Through repeated activities, I was able to deepen my interactions while touching on each individual's personality, and I felt both enjoyment and that it contributed to my own growth.
I also continued as a junior worker for five years. At that time, I had a sense of difficulty standing in front of people and expressing my opinions. I started this activity inspired by the youth workers back then, and thanks to continuing it until now, I have become able to stand confidently and speak in front of the children. I often feel that this experience is also useful in my daily life.
In planning and managing the seminar, being able to share opinions with my peers and cooperate to create a single space was an experience that I feel will be a great asset going forward.
I hope this activity will continue in the future and remain an important "place to belong" for the children today, just as it has been for me.
