The Fate of Garbage
Disposal Methods for Incineration Ash
Do you know how the waste from your households is incinerated at the "Tamagawa Clean Center" operated by the Tamagawa Sanitation Association and how it is processed after it turns into ash?
The generated ash is transported to the Tokyo Tama Eco-Cement Facility located at the "Tokyo Tama Wide Area Resource Recycling Association" Futatsuzuka Disposal Site in Hinode Town, Tokyo, and is recycled into eco-cement. All household waste generated in Inagi City is recycled, and landfilling is not conducted.
The Futatsuzuka Disposal Site accepts waste from 25 cities and 1 town in the Tama region, serving approximately 4 million people. With the understanding and cooperation of the residents of Hinode Town, the eco-cementation of ash and the landfill of non-burnable waste from some cities are being carried out.
It is very difficult to create another final disposal site for waste, and there are limitations to landfilling. Therefore, the operation of the eco-cement facility is aimed at extending the lifespan of the disposal site.
Each individual is asked to thoroughly separate their waste with the thought of bringing in only the minimum amount of incineration ash to Hinode Town, recycling resources such as old paper, old cloth, cans, PET bottles, and glass bottles, and cooperating in further waste reduction.
