Please do not drain dirty water into rivers or roadside ditches.
The rivers in Inagi City have become cleaner compared to before, thanks to the spread of sewerage systems and the growing awareness of environmental issues among citizens. Additionally, many waterfront facilities have been developed, serving as places of relaxation for many people.
However, accidents frequently occur where paint, oil, cleaning and car wash detergents, and tree disinfectants flow into rivers.
We ask for the understanding and cooperation of all citizens to maintain a good waterfront environment.
Water that flows into the ditch goes directly into the river.
Basically, Inagi City adopts a "separate sewer system" that separates rainwater and domestic wastewater.
Domestic wastewater, etc. is carried through the sewage pipes and treated at the water recycling center.
On the other hand, rainwater is allowed to permeate underground through rainwater catch basins, or it is channeled through rainwater pipes from the roadside ditches and directly discharged into rivers (some rainwater catch basins are connected to rainwater pipes).
Therefore, if you pour wastewater such as paint into the roadside ditches or stormwater drains, the wastewater will flow directly into the rivers.
(Facilities using a standalone septic tank discharge wastewater other than from toilets directly into rivers or irrigation channels. Please be aware of this.)

To prevent water quality pollution accidents
- Use up oils and paints completely to avoid generating waste liquids.
- Wastewater from leftover paint and brushes should be absorbed by rags or paper and disposed of properly as waste.
- Please wash your car at designated car wash facilities to prevent wash water from flowing into rivers.
- Be sure to fully understand the necessary amount of disinfectants for trees and avoid having excess spray solution. Also, make sure to clean your spraying equipment and containers in appropriate locations to prevent cleaning water from accidentally flowing into rivers and other water systems.
Responsibility of the Cause for Water Quality Accidents and Other Measures
Water quality accident response should originally be the responsibility of the party at fault; however, in order to avoid the expansion of damage, it is essential to have urgent and appropriate measures. Therefore, there are many cases where river managers and other related organizations directly implement cleaning and other countermeasures.
However, even if the river management authority has carried out accident handling, the costs and expenses incurred for that handling must be borne by the responsible party. (River Law Article 67)
