What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)?

What is an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

It is said that approximately 30,000 people die each year in Japan due to sudden cardiac arrest, and one of the main direct causes of sudden cardiac arrest is ventricular fibrillation.
The heart acts as a pump that sends blood throughout the body, delivering it in a steady rhythm. Ventricular fibrillation refers to a condition where the heart's ventricles tremble in small, rapid movements, preventing blood from being pumped out.
Ventricular Fibrillation is the only condition that can be defibrillated by delivering an electric shock, allowing a return to normalcy. Therefore, the speed of defibrillation is crucial, and the device that determines whether defibrillation is necessary and delivers an electric shock as needed is called an AED.
The AEDs installed in public facilities within the city display usage instructions in both audio guidance and on the main display with illustrations and text, making them easier to use.

There are signs called AED marks at the locations where AEDs are installed, indicating that they are available.

AED Installation Locations in Inagi City

The AEDs listed on this map include those installed in public facilities, as well as AEDs installed in private businesses, with the cooperation of each business.
It is limited to the hours when each facility is open and when an AED is not in use within the facility, but it can also be used by nearby citizens in case of an emergency.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the private businesses and ask for your appropriate use.

The website of the Japan Emergency Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation, also publishes a national AED map based on the information registered by AED installers.
Note: This is a different AED map from the Inagi Map.
