What is the Housing Security Benefit?

The Housing Security Benefit is a grant aimed at securing housing for those who have lost their residence due to job loss or a significant decrease in household income, or those who are at high risk of losing their residence.

Please contact the "Comprehensive Welfare and Living Services Desk" first.

Rent Subsidy

For those who have become economically distressed due to job loss, business closure, unavoidable suspension of work, etc., and have lost or are at risk of losing their housing, the city will pay the rent equivalent amount (with an upper limit) to the landlord for a period of three months in principle (with an extension system available), on the condition that the person engages in activities aimed at finding employment.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Within two years after leaving a job or closing a business, or due to unavoidable reasons, opportunities to earn income have decreased
  • Household income amount is below the standard amount (84,000 yen for a single-person household, 130,000 yen for a two-person household, 172,000 yen for a three-person household) plus the rent amount (with an upper limit)
  • The total amount of deposits and cash is below a certain amount (504,000 yen for single-person households, 780,000 yen for two-person households, 1,000,000 yen for households of three or more)
  • Before the above situation occurred, the household was primarily maintained by the household income.

Amount Granted

We will provide an amount equivalent to the rent. The payment period is generally 3 months (up to a maximum of 9 months).

Single-person Household 53,700 yen
2-Person Household 64,000 yen
3-Person Household 69,800 yen

For those whose household income has significantly decreased due to the death or job loss of a household member, and who need to move to a lower-rent residence to improve their household finances, we provide financial assistance for moving expenses.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Within two years from the month when household income significantly decreased
  • Household income amount is below the standard amount (84,000 yen for a single-person household, 130,000 yen for a two-person household, 172,000 yen for a three-person household) plus the rent amount (with an upper limit)
  • The total amount of deposits and cash is below a certain amount (504,000 yen for single-person households, 780,000 yen for two-person households, 1,000,000 yen for households of three or more)
