As of December 1, 2016, the washing symbols for clothing and other items have been changed to the symbols specified in the new JIS L 0001.

The new laundry symbols use the same symbols as the international standard. The types of bleach and applicable temperatures are now specified in more detail, increasing the number of symbols from 22 to 41. By providing more detailed information, it is expected to reduce laundry problems such as shrinking and color fading of clothes.
In addition, with the unification of laundry symbols both domestically and internationally, it is expected that handling textile products such as clothing purchased overseas will become smoother.
