No.94 A comprehensive agreement has been concluded regarding collaboration with Nihon University Athletic Sports Department
On September 3, 2019, a comprehensive agreement on cooperation between Inagi City and the Nihon University Competitive Sports Club was signed at the newly established Sports Nihon University Performance Center in Sakahama.
Nihon University has long owned land in Sakahama and has established athletic facilities such as a track and field stadium, rugby field, and soccer field. This location is close to Wakabadai Station and within walking distance, but it is situated on a hill between Tokyo Metropolitan Wakaba Comprehensive High School to the north and Inagi Dai 2 Junior High School to the east. Because the vast facilities cannot be seen from the road, many people may not be aware that Nihon University has facilities within the city.
The city has not had a direct partnership with Nihon University until now, but recently a facility redevelopment plan has been initiated, and including plans for utilizing the adjacent land, the city has increasingly been cooperating mainly in facility development matters.
This sports facility underwent a major renovation and was relaunched in 2017 as the "Sports Nichidai Athletic Park Inagi," with ongoing facility improvements. In July of this year, a new flagship facility for athlete development, the "Performance Center," also opened.
Athletic Park Inagi is located on a vast site of 126,000 square meters, equivalent to 2.7 Tokyo Domes. The environment of the student dormitory, including training facilities and a cafeteria, is said to be of the highest level in Japan, including the top leagues.
The city is currently advancing the Land Readjustment Project in the Kamihirao and Odara districts, and in line with this progress, in April 2017, a general student dormitory with a capacity of 300 people, "Vandelian Inagi," was opened.
Thus, through the collaboration and cooperation between the city and Nihon University, excellent facilities have been established in a wonderful environment.
Meanwhile, while facility improvements are progressing, with the upcoming Rugby World Cup being held in Japan in mind, the Nihon University Rugby Club has acted as an intermediary to explore collaboration with the city in areas beyond just facility development.
On May 4, 2019, a tag rugby event for children was held at the Inagi City General Ground with the cooperation of the rugby club, and after the event, the spring tournament between Nihon University and Hosei University was also held.
Furthermore, students living in the dormitory have joined the fire brigade, and many athletes from the rugby club, men's and women's soccer clubs, track and field club, and women's judo club have participated in city events such as the Environmental Beautification Citizen Movement and the citywide simultaneous crime prevention patrol. These efforts have been met with gratitude and welcome from the citizens.
Amid these circumstances, the city has fostered a momentum to build a closer partnership with Nihon University across a broader range of fields beyond just sports, aiming for mutual development, which has culminated in today's agreement.
As future collaboration, the City will continue to cooperate with Nihon University in facility development and accept internships at City Hall and the Fire Department. Additionally, Nihon University is expected to conduct sports classes for citizens, hold matches at the Inagi City General Ground and Inagi Nagamine Tokyo Verdy Field, and participate in various community activities.
We hope that this comprehensive agreement will serve as an opportunity for Inagi City and Nihon University to develop together.
