Frequently Asked Questions (National Pension)
QuestionPlease tell me about the benefits of the National Pension.
Response
National Common Basic Pension
(1) Old Age Basic Pension
If you have paid insurance premiums for 10 years or more (including exemption periods), you can receive benefits when you turn 65. Additionally, you can request an early claim between the ages of 60 and 65, or a deferred claim after the age of 66, if you wish.
(2) Disability Basic Pension
If you are under 65 years old and have a disability due to illness or injury that remains, you can receive benefits when you are certified as having a level 1 or 2 disability on the date that is one and a half years after the initial examination date (disability certification date).
(3) Survivor's Basic Pension
When a person enrolled in the National Pension or a recipient of the old-age basic pension passes away, their spouse with children under 18 years old (or children under 20 years old with disability grades 1 or 2) or the children themselves can receive benefits.
Note: If you are requesting (2) or (3), one of the following payment requirements will be required.
- On the day before the initial consultation date or the date of death, there must be at least two-thirds of the insured period for the month of the initial consultation date or the date of death, including the period of premium exemption.
- If the date of the first visit or the date of death is before March 31, 2028, there must be no overdue period in the year leading up to the day before the date of the first visit or the date of death, up to the month before the date of the first visit or the date of death.
Unique Benefits of the National Pension
(1) Widow's Pension
If a husband who has never received the Old Age Basic Pension or Disability Basic Pension as a Type 1 insured person and has paid premiums for more than 10 years (including exemptions, payment deferrals, and special provisions for students) dies, his wife, who was supported by him at the time of his death and has been married for more than 10 years, can receive three-quarters of the amount of the Old Age Basic Pension that the husband would have received from age 60 until she turns 65.
(2) Death Lump-Sum Payment
If a person who has paid insurance premiums for 36 months or more (including the exemption period for maternity leave) as a Type 1 insured person dies without receiving either the old-age or disability basic Pension, their surviving family members who were living together can receive benefits.
Note: You cannot receive both (1) and (2).
