QuestionPlease tell me about joining the National Pension.

Response

Individuals aged 20 and over but under 60 living in Japan are required to enroll in the National Pension.

Those who must enroll

  1. Category 1 Insured Person
    Farmers, self-employed individuals and their spouses, unemployed individuals, students, etc.
  2. Category 2 Insured Person
    Those who are enrolled in the Employees' Pension
  3. Category 3 Insured Person
    Spouse supported by the insured person of Category 2

Those who can join if they wish

  1. Those aged 60 and under 65 who want to increase their Basic Old-Age Pension amount to the full amount or who lack the required qualification period (those born before April 1, 1975, can join until they meet the qualification period, up to under 70 years old)
    Note: This applies only to those who are not enrolled in the Employees' Pension on the application date.
  2. Japanese citizens aged 20 and under 65 living abroad

When becoming a Type 1 insured person

1. Procedure locations: Fuchu Pension Office, City Hall Insurance and Pension Division, Hirao Branch Office, Wakabadai Branch Office

2. Required Items
 (1) Identification documents (My Number Card, driver's license, etc.)
 (2) Basic Pension Number notification or Pension handbook
 (3) Official documents showing the date of leaving the company, such as a certificate of loss of qualification, retirement certificate, or separation notice
 (4) For those aged 60 and under 70, a bank (savings) passbook and registered seal

Note: Those who reach the age of 20 will receive a notification of enrollment, a basic Pension number notification, and payment slips from the Japan Pension Service.
Note: Electronic applications for procedures can be made from the My Number Portal (excluding procedures for those aged 60 and over).

When becoming a Category 2 or 3 insured person

Please complete the enrollment procedure through your or your spouse's workplace.
