QuestionPlease tell me about the National Pension premium exemption system during the prenatal and postnatal period.

Response

When a National Pension Type 1 insured person gives birth, the National Pension insurance premiums for a certain period before and after childbirth will be exempted upon notification.

Eligible Individuals

Those who are "National Pension Category 1 Insured Persons" and have a childbirth date on or after February 1, 2019

Exemption Period

The National Pension insurance premiums will be exempted for four months starting from the month prior to the expected delivery date or the date of delivery. In the case of multiple pregnancies, the National Pension insurance premiums will be exempted for six months starting from three months prior to the expected delivery date or the date of delivery.
Note: Childbirth refers to the delivery after 85 days (4 months) of pregnancy, including stillbirths, miscarriages, and premature births.

Handling of Pre- and Postnatal Period

The period recognized as the maternity leave period will be reflected in the amount of the Old Age Basic Pension as if the insurance premiums were paid.

Notification Period

You can submit the notification from six months before the expected date of delivery, and you can also submit it after the birth.

Note: You can submit an exemption application electronically from the My Number Portal.

Required Items for Notification

  1. Identity verification documents (My Number Card, driver's license, etc.)
  2. Basic Pension Number Notification or Pension Handbook
  3. Maternal and Child Health Handbook (In the case where the insured person and child are in separate households after childbirth notification, documents such as a birth certificate that clarify the date of birth and parent-child relationship)
