QuestionI received a qualification confirmation document/qualification information notice with a short validity period. Why is that?

Response

The qualification confirmation document and qualification information notice are updated once every two years on August 1, so the expiration date is until July 31.
Cases in which a qualification confirmation document or qualification information notice with a short expiration date is issued are as follows.

  1. For those who turn 75 by July 31, the expiration date will be until the day before their birthday, as they will transition to the Late-Stage Elderly Medical Care system from their 75th birthday.
  2. For those who turn 70 years old, from the month following their 70th birthday month (or the birthday month itself if their birthday is on the 1st), the co-payment rate at medical institutions and other service counters will be either 20% or 30% depending on the previous year's income. Since this rate is indicated on the Qualification Confirmation Document and Qualification Information Notice, the validity period will be until the last day of the birthday month (or the month before the birthday month if the birthday is on the 1st).
  3. For foreign residents, the validity period is the same as the expiration date of the residence card. If the residence card is renewed, you can receive a new Qualification Confirmation Document and Qualification Information Notice at City Hall or the Branch Office (Hirao or Wakabadai). Please bring your new residence card at that time.
