Frequently Asked Questions (National Health Insurance)
QuestionDo people with no income still have to pay the National Health Insurance Tax?
Response
National Health Insurance is a mutual aid system where all members contribute to the National Health Insurance Tax to cover necessary Medical Expenses in preparation for illness or injury.
For this reason, the National Health Insurance Tax consists of a portion that is based on income (income-based portion) and a portion that is equally shared by all members (flat-rate portion).
In households where income has been reported through tax returns such as final tax returns or Municipal Resident Tax declarations, the National Health Insurance Tax will be reduced if the income is below a certain standard.
