Frequently Asked Questions (National Health Insurance)
QuestionPlease tell me about the Health Insurance Card for Older Adults under the National Health Insurance Program.
Response
The Older Adults Benefit Certificate is issued separately from the Health Insurance Card to individuals aged 70 and over, and it specifies the co-payment ratio applicable to that person.
From the month following the month of your 70th birthday (or the birthday month if the birthday is on the 1st), the percentage of the co-payment you will pay at medical institutions and other places will be 20% or 30% depending on your income from the previous year.
When visiting medical institutions, please present your Health Insurance Card along with your Older Adults Certificate at the reception of the medical institution.

Note: Even for those who fall under the 30% burden, if the total income of National Health Insurance members aged 70 and over is less than 5.2 million yen for two or more people, or less than 3.83 million yen for one person, it will become a 20% burden upon application.
